Goodbye Janis Joplin, Hello Jonny Greenwood

February 4, 2008

My new hairdo, swishy huh?

Oh and I lost a pound.

I walked a good 3 miles today but neglected to wear my pedometer so you’ll have to take my word for it. I also behaved foodwise, had porridge for brekkie, wholemeal pasta with homemade ragu and aduki beans with a cup of pea soup for lunch, in the afternoon i had a granny smith apple and then went to visit my friend Maz who made me pasta with pesto and tuna followed by a low fat yoghurt and a cup of coffee with milk (i usually drink it black so don’t tend to bother recording it).

I got quite the welcome from Ms Kiki, my tiny 15 month chum (sporting a hoxtonite mullet today rather than the afro on my flickr page). A wave with two hands and tears when her mummy took her through to get changed. We had lots of fun playing aeroplanes and pretending to be cats.

Weekend Wobble

February 3, 2008

Not been that good this weekend. Went to Livingston with my mum and had a wetherspoons lunch – pasta and meatballs and a glass of soda water and lime then a Chinese takeaway when i got home for dinner – hot and sour soup, vegetable curry and boiled rice. Today I’ve had a bowl of porridge so far and intend to have the last of my granary bread in a cheese toastie -only got a matchbox sized bit of emmenthal left and i brush the plates with a dab of oil rather than butter both sides of the bread so it’s not as bad as it sounds. Got a big pot of spicy bean home-made soup bubbling away so i’ll have a bowl of that also.

Didn’t bother wearing my pedometer yesterday – was kicking myself later on cos the old dear and i covered a lot of ground.

My grocery delivery has just arrived and it’s full of goodness – no naughtyness at all so there’s no excuse for me to stray from the path.

Slightly derailed

January 31, 2008

Started well today with my usual porridge which was cooked to perfection – creamy not rubbery. Had an apple mid morning which was rather less hard on the mouth than yesterday’s.

Lunch was macaroni cheese from the canteen – I went down with the best of intentions but the siren call of my favourite stodgy meal proved too strong. I should have stuck to salad, it was horrible, the cheese sauce was runny and the pasta flaccid.

Am having a steamed breast of chicken with ginger and chill to atone for my gluttony at lunchtime with a heap of broccoli and a small portion of basmati rice on the side.

On the upside I managed to improve on yesterday’s step count: 6853 steps; 422 cals burned; 2.74km covered – nothing like a blizzard to hurry me along.

Back on Track

January 30, 2008

Back to the path of virtue after an extended bout of gastroenteritis over the weekend, been subsisting on lucozade and white plastic bread for the past few days so it’s something of a relief to return something a little less bland. Today also marked the first time that I’d given my brand new bells and whistles pedometer a shot, I’m hoping it’ll prove to be an asset in spurring me on to get off my arse and move about.

Breakfast consisted of a porridge made with soya milk and sprinkled with pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, a smattering of dried coconut, a couple of dried cranberries and an almond or two washed down with a cup of black coffee.

I didn’t bother with a mid-morning snack as the porridge was sitting in my belly like a big oaty brick. Lunch was a rather sad looking green salad with prawn mayo from the canteen as I wasn’t organised enough to make something last night. I also had a cup of their lentil soup which could have been a mistake given the state of my digestive system over the last few days but seems to be ok.

I had an Asda cereal bar with cranberry and apple (70cals) at about 2.30pm then a nice juicy granny smith just before 5 which was slightly spoilt by a tiny cut my mouth that took exception to the acid bath it was getting by stinging like billy-o.

Got the number 13 bus which stops at the far end of the road and gave me the opportunity to up my step count and get my heart rate up a bit. There was something of a chill in the air which only heightened my resolve to get in to the cosy flat and along the road.

Step count for today: 6291; Cals burned 364; Distance covered 2.51km

Got right in and made my dinner. Started with a salad of watercress, baby plum tomatoes, spring onions and artichoke hearts dressed with marks and spencer honey and mustard dressing and a sprinkling of seeds.

Main course was tinned mackerel in tomato sauce with Bulgar wheat and masses of greens drizzled with sweet chilli sauce and peppermint tea.
